Regarded as the ultimate solution for next-generation power batteries, the development of solid-state batteries has become one of the most watched focuses in the current new energy sector and emerged as a hot topic in the battery industry in recent years. Major battery manufacturers are actively engaging in the R&D and production of solid-state battery products.

Recently, GAC Group announced that the first domestic high-capacity all-solid-state battery production line of its subsidiary INPOWER Battery has been officially completed and entered the small-batch testing phase. The all-solid-state batteries produced will be installed in GAC AION Hyper GT models starting from 2026, supporting a 1,000km driving range and 4C fast charging, with the battery pack thickness reduced to 15cm.

Compared with traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries offer the following advantages:

① High safety: It replaces the flammable and volatile organic liquid electrolyte with a non-flammable solid electrolyte, reducing the risk of explosion and fire.

② High energy density: Ultra-high capacity electrode materials enable the direct use of metallic lithium as the anode, whose energy density is several times higher than that of graphite anodes. The battery can be designed into a bipolar structure to reduce the usage of inactive materials, thereby improving the system energy density of the battery pack. The target energy density is expected to reach 400-500 Wh/kg, far exceeding the current level.

③ Extended lifespan: The solid-state system can better inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites and the occurrence of side reactions, thereby achieving a longer cycle life.

④ Wide operating temperature range: It can operate stably over a wider temperature range of -30℃ to 100℃, alleviating the issue of performance degradation at low temperatures.

Behind the high performance lies the rigorous manufacturing challenges. Among these processes, the electrode coating process is a crucial link in the production of all-solid-state batteries. High requirements for coating:

      ● High uniformity—the distribution of solid electrolyte particles must be highly homogeneous; otherwise, it will affect the battery's performance and cycle life.

Flawless and defect-free—the coating must be free of blemishes and scratches.

      ● High stability—the conveying and coating processes must be continuously stable, as any pulsation in flow rate or pressure will directly compromise the coating quality.

The high-precision metering pumps of FSH-GM and FSH-EPB series launched by Guangzhou Ascend provide high-precision, stable, and pulse-free slurry conveyance for the production process of solid-state batteries. FSH-GM series diaphragm constant-flow pumps support control in angular units and are suitable for medium-to-high viscosity liquids, avoiding contamination during medium conveyance.

FSH-EBP series pumps feature a low-particle structure with high reliability, along with excellent liquid displacement performance, good defoaming capability and high-precision motion characteristics. They can exert their advantages of stability and uniformity in various coating processes such as slot die coating and spin coating.
